Everyone is celebrating right now outside our house. The reason : Nanay Fely, my mother-in-law will be leaving tomorrow at 10 in the evening for San Diego, California to be reunited with her husband, Tatay Orly who has been there last October 31, 2011 and with her eldest daughter’s (Ofelia Fabian) family.
Each one is extending their farewell and hoping for the best for Nanay.
Nanay Fely has every reason to celebrate today because she has undergone difficulties earlier.
When she was earlier invited as a visitor (by spouses Ofelia and Elser Fabian), and had her first interview in US Embassy, she was denied.
One year later, she had been petitioned and had to undergo medical check-up which she also failed to pass due to her weak lungs. She had to go through a series of medical check-up in six months time.
According to Nanay, she had been in trying times all those six months because she has to travel everyday from Bulacan to Manila to have her check-up and took the medicines prescribed by her doctor at the St. Luke’s Hospital. It was a tiring task for her considering her age.
Finally, the day came for her interview. When she was infront of the interviewing US consul, she has forgotten one of the most important document needed. ( I forgot to mention she is also suffering from diabetes which is the main reason of her forgetfulness) She was advised to come back some other time. It was at this moment that Nanay Fely felt distressed and wanted to back out. Imagine, she waited this moment for less than a year and her she was. The refusal to be interviewed due to a single document she has forgotten to bring her along repudiated her. She blamed herself and concluded that she was not really meant to be with her husband and her eldest daughter’s family.
Fortunately, her pamangkin Neng was with her who reacted and think quick. She texted her Kuya Olan (Nanay Fely’s second son and my husband) and asked him to email the said document.
Hours after, she was interviewed and passed and yes, she cried. And cried a lot! At last….
This is exactly the reason for the celebration outside.
Von voyage Nanay Fely! A toast for your first airplane travel…
